Cross-Readership and Editorial Design
“Editorial design must find a way to serve the subjects, writers, and readers of news stories.”
This semester I’ve been working to make the print and online editions of The Tartan a dynamic visual experience for readers. I rebranded and redesigned the paper, and in each issue I chose photos and a layout that would serve the stories. Over the course of the semester, I introduced new design elements to the print edition that served to drive traffic to the website and maintain a cross-readership. This was meant to encourage students to use both venues to engage in discussion with the paper and our campus community. The template and design guide I created can be used by future Design Editors of The Tartan, to facilitate what I hope will be a long-lasting service to our campus community.
